CommBank is leading the charge by equipping all staff with AI training!

Empowering employees with cutting-edge skills to drive innovation.

The Commonwealth Bank of Australia is implementing an AI microlearning series for all its employees.

The educational series, AI For All, features short learning videos on topics like generative AI, deep learning, and responsible AI. Additionally, employees throughout the bank will have access to role-specific AI training courses.

Launched in May 2024 to about 43,000 CommBank employees, the microlearning series has received over 22,000 views across its nine learning modules.

Jane Adams, CommBank’s Executive General Manager of Human Resources Technology, states: “We recognize that AI is becoming a crucial tool for providing top-notch products and experiences for our customers. In response, we are dedicated to building a skilled, future-ready workforce.”

The bank has been using AI for several years to enhance protection against fraud and scams and to detect technology-facilitated abuse.

In October, it announced that it was exploring the use of generative AI to create ‘synthetic customers’ that can mimic human behavior, aiming to test responses to new products and services.

The bank has implemented a principles-based approach to guide the design, development, deployment, and use of AI systems.

Adams explains, “In designing our AI training suite, it was crucial to make responsible AI a central topic. No matter what role someone holds at the bank, everyone has an important part to play in using AI responsibly and managing AI-related risks.”
