OpenAI is expected to launch its new AI model, Strawberry, within the next two weeks.
According to Seeking Alpha on Tuesday (Sept. 10), the new model can tackle math problems it hasn’t seen before and “thinks” about a question before responding, based on information from a paywalled article by The Information.
On August 27, it was reported that Strawberry would be released in the fall as OpenAI’s next-generation AI product.
In July, reports indicated that Strawberry aims to boost AI models‘ advanced reasoning skills, enhance their capacity to understand and handle complex information, and enable OpenAI to further expand the capabilities of its models.
“OpenAI’s quest for human-level reasoning is more than just a technological feat; it’s about breaking boundaries and creating new opportunities across various industries,” said Ghazenfer Mansoor, founder and CEO of Technology Rivers, in a PYMNTS interview on July 16. “In the business world, AI has the potential to revolutionize supply chain management, accurately predict market trends, and personalize customer experiences on a large scale.”
One year after launching the first of its three business products, OpenAI announced last week that it now has over 1 million paying business users, an increase from 600,000 in April.
The total includes users of ChatGPT Enterprise, ChatGPT Team, and ChatGPT Edu, which were launched in August 2023, January, and May, respectively.
“AI is revolutionizing various fields—from transforming education and enhancing patient care to improving government services,” said OpenAI COO Brad Lightcap in a statement to PYMNTS on Thursday (Sept. 5). “We’re proud to support over a million paying business users in boosting productivity, streamlining operations, and discovering new opportunities for innovation.”
The launch of Strawberry is approaching as OpenAI is reportedly seeking to raise “several billion dollars” in a funding round that could value the company at over $100 billion.
Maintaining a leading position in AI will demand billions in investment. OpenAI invested over $100 million to develop its GPT-4 model and is anticipated to spend even more on its current development efforts.
