Quack, quack, woof?
OpenAI‘s Advanced Voice Mode for ChatGPT is still relatively new, but the company may soon introduce eight additional voices to this impressive feature. This enhancement would further improve the natural conversation experience with artificial intelligence, making interactions even more engaging and versatile.
The new ChatGPT voices are expected to introduce a variety of styles, expanding beyond the current four presets: Juniper, Ember, Cove, and Breeze. Advanced Voice Mode aims to provide the most human-like ChatGPT experience, comparable to Google’s Gemini Live on the latest Pixel 9 smartphones.
According to TestingCatalog, recent reverse engineering reports have revealed eight new voices for ChatGPT: Fathom, Glimmer, Harp, Maple, Orbit, Rainbow, Reef, Ridge, and Vale. These voices enhance the ability to express sounds more naturally, including realistic effects like dog barks.
These new voices, though connected to ChatGPT’s text-to-speech feature, are well-suited to expand the options in Advanced Voice Mode due to their impressive qualities. Currently, these voices aren’t available for use, but you can listen to samples shared by Tibor Blaho on X.
OpenAI’s Potential Move into Hardware ?
OpenAI might be expanding beyond software, with reports suggesting a potential entry into the hardware market. According to Taiwanese website United Daily News, OpenAI has been in discussions with TSMC, the leading chip manufacturer known for its collaboration with Apple on iPhones. However, since the source’s reliability on chipset information is not well-established, this remains speculative for now.
The rumor suggests that OpenAI is looking to develop its own custom AI chipset, similar to Apple’s Neural Engines and other Neural Processing Units. This custom chip would utilize TSMC’s A16 Angstrom process, which Apple might also adopt in the future, hinting at possible collaborations between OpenAI and Apple. Additionally, Apple plans to integrate ChatGPT into iPhones as part of the next generation of Siri, powered by Apple Intelligence. This integration will enable iPhone users to send prompts to OpenAI’s servers, allowing them to leverage both on-device Apple Intelligence and ChatGPT’s advanced capabilities.
